The first one I looked at is handily 249g, so comes under this category, it seems (the law is harmonised throughout the EU now):
  • Drones Under 250 grams: Classified under the Open A1 category, these drones offer maximum operational freedom. They can be operated without a drone license, yet they require valid insurance and a registration with the national aviation authority. This category primarily benefits hobbyists and professionals who use smaller, less risky drones.
There's also a comprehensive map of no-fly and height-restricted areas here. Homework ongoing.

On the YT photography channels I watch, the drone footage/photography often looks more impressive than the ground based content. Certainly a great way to get a different perspective. I’ve noticed many positive comments on DJI tech in general.

It's just that on so many walks/rides often there are potentially interesting angles/perpectives tantalisingly near that you can't get from ground level, and as I say, I think it could really give a better idea of the grandeur of the area.

This is the kind of terrain I'd have to play with... often the videos (like this one) are repetitive and too long for the material, but I think one-minute 'shorts' of sweeping views in one or two takes would be worth trying as a 'thing' to use on my FB Page. And for me, the pleasure of learning new skills.

Completely agree, I'd gladly accidently stamp on any that came near me....

Fortunately it's actually pretty rare for me to bump into anyone on my walks there, and I'd be making a point of doing anything like this well away from other people anyway. I can easily do a three-hour walk and not see a single soul.

Decided to take the plunge with the Potensic Atom with two batteries (64 minutes). TBH, at £255, it's not a disaster if I don't do that much with it, but even if I get the occasional one from some of my favourite spots in the mountains, I'll be happy.

I'll be having a play somewhere well away from people when it arrives and before I shoot off to France for Easter with it in my bag.

To turn up at such a beautiful location and find some "insert name of choice" is ruining it with a drone wold be very annoying, selfish, entitled...

It might be if I hadn't already said I'll be doing it well away from other people. Apart from the summer hols it's standard to do a 3-4 hour walk there without seeing anyone.

Just be aware how annoying drones are to others. Plus of course the laws around the minimum distance they have to be flown away from others.

If it's under 250 grams, ie DJI Mini, then I believe the only no fly zones are prisons, airports or military bases, other than that anything goes, I think there's an app or software in it that won't allow it to fly over, or take off near such places, minimum distances are for bigger drones

I think in France the no-fly zones apply to all classes, as far as I can see.
