Drink before bed?

Who has a glass of water before hitting the sack? And if so why?

Only if I've been out drinking, then its to try and prevent a hangover

Not a glass as such, but generally when I've cleaned my teeth I'll have a handful or two of water.
If I dehydrate sufficiently, from about 4am onwards I'll have very disrupted sleep with freaky-weird scary panic-attack-inducing hypnogogic/hypnopompic-type dreams, sometimes with auditory hallucinations thrown in. So, having to get up in the night because I've drunk too much is the preferred option for me

I always do although I can't offer a real explanation. It's just a habit I seem to have got into. Unlike any of my other habits, this one can't do me any harm so I see no reason to stop.

Hi Crankarm,

I always have a glass of water next to the bed.

Hydration at night is a tricky thing for me. Too little and I wake up feeling rough. Too much and I get disturbed sleep with trips to the bathroom.

Any reason?

I ask as I have started imbibing about 1/2 a pint of water on hydration grounds before I turn in, not because the preceeding night has been spent on the tiles having a skinful, but because I have been thinking about blood. Yes, blood. I read somewhere that statistically the most common time of day for a heart attack is in the early hours when most are dead asleep. Now I like to think that I am not yet an old fogey so my organs are still quite fresh but the thought of them grinding to a halt or being put under undue strain because my little ticker is struggling to pump my thickening blood from head to toe because it is in need of water replenishment troubles me. Hence a drink of water before bed which I feel increases the likelihood that I will wake up alive in the morning. I drink a little and often throughout the day anyway.

I usually have a glass of water before bed, and as soon as I wake up. Like to keep hydrated and aim to drink 3 liters of water per day.

No water just a sandwich and a small glass of squash to wash it down. Stops me waking up in the small hours with the munchies.
