saw two middle age cyclists yesterday. One was riding a Boardman, the other a Carrera. Guess who's been shopping in Halfords?
As I drove past them, they turned off to a mcdonald! Thats not the way to keep fit I thought.
Like I said, dont know why I'm saying this as it is of no interest to anybody really.
Do you look at what bikes people are riding?

Only Boardman and Carrera strangely enough! But surely that's bloody good marketing in one sense?

I've never cycled to a McDonald's but is the calorie intake there so much different to a really big cake stop? And you never know; they may just have ordered a salad.....

At least they were cycling - whilst you were in a car. "Just look at that youngster in a car. He should be on fine bikes like us; all he needs to do is go to Halfords the lazy git."

But yes, understand where you are coming from here.

I had a few mcdonalds while touring around Ireland on my Boardman... does that make me a bad person... what's the point?!

Carrera have had a lot of praise on here and boardman they get praised on many sites, you didn't mention what the middle age had to do with it. Incidentally, what car were you driving?

Halfords I think, and middle aged men in lycra?

You've got to admit, those Boardman bikes do look good when out and about. Personally I'm a tad jealous of people that buy them; they are obviously pretty self confident and recognise a good deal when they see one. And I'm not trying to be ironic here either; I'm tied up with silly brand names as much as anybody else. They do seem to be getting wider recognition and acceptance - my local LBS has spotted a canny move and happily repairs / adjusts them post Halfords sale. One suspects that the local LBS boys would like to stock them....

There are going to be a lot more Boardmans and Carreras on the road when you look at the cycle2work scheme uptakes - Halfords seem to remain constantly competitive in this market, and the Boardman's are pretty good value for money.

I do always look out for bikes tht people are riding, but having 2 Boardmans and a decrepid Claud Butler I'm not really in any position to be snobby about what I see. It's great to see anyone out on the road on any bike in my opinion.

Obviously McDonalds isn't a healthy option, but maybe they were just going for a coffee?

I know the title of your post suggest that you don't know what your own point is... Are you slating Halfords? bikes that retail through Halfords? cyclists who go to Halfords? people who think they're cyclists but go to Halfords? People who go to McDonalds? People who cycle to McDonalds? People who go to Mcdonalds on bikes that retail from Halfords?...

Confused.

there was no point i was trying to make. it was just an observation while i was driving.
I am not critisising Halfords in any way as I am sure Mr Boardman wouldn't sell his bikes there if they were no good ( apart from the fact that he gets high exposure in return for some commission I suppose)
Like I said, my post was just for something to say, so dont read anything in it.
As for bike snobbery, this is not my way of thinking. I couldn't care less what bikes people ride. Like I said in a previous post, as far as I am concerned, bikes are very simple machine with two wheels, a handlebar, a seat and some gears. Simple engineering but a very efficient way of moving about.

Its not a matter of making some kind of point, the OP has asked a question "Do you look at what bikes people are riding ?"

Yes i do !

I think teenage kids are sad for checking out what brand names the other kids are wearing and what make/model of mobile phone they have, but i never pass a bike without looking at what it is !

I have the same view as others here on the Boardman range, good bikes at a good price and easily available through a large multinational. If I needed a new road bike i would consider buying one but i know would probably end up with some exotic italian steed.

When I was going to Paris a few years ago a very wise friend of mine said "Be sure to take a Macdonalds map with you." I looked at him like he was insane. "Think about it," he said, "they all have free toilets."

I always equate going to McDonalds for a salad is like going to a prostitute for a hug when there is soooo much better stuff on the menu..

A chain gang, fully kitted out riding into a drive through and ordering Big Mac meals... Now that would be ballsy!

Do you look at what bikes people are riding?

Not when they're riding but I often have a good sken at nice ones I see parked up. When out and about I notice what type of bike e.g. mountain, racer, hybrid etc but the brand and model not so much.....
