I'd say a knife or some pepper spray but I see you're not going as far as the Port  I went up the cycle track for the first time ever when I was home in March and went from the Port up to BoW and back and was surprised at how busy it was, not with other cyclists but dog walkers and people pushing buggies and wheelchairs and there were the odd couple of groups of hungover people doing the walk of shame as it was earlyish on a Sunday morning. There were few potholes that I can remember but keep an eye out for glass, certainly once you do eventually cut down through Dubbs Road and through the factories as the path is littered with broken glass and dog poo and drunken teenangers (I used to be one of them!).

Anyone know how to keep your feet warm/dry while cycling? I just went outside, rain's heavy and very cold.

You paint a glowing picture AnythingBut Vanilla:rolleyes:
Just realised it's a bit late for advice, jazloc will be heading for home by now.
It's so hot further north I've been wearing my short sleeved shirt:heat:, where's that knotted hanky smiley?

Edit, I see jazloc has not started out yet, tomorrow maybe?

Its a nice cycle path - on the way to Kilmacolm from Paisley it is slightly uphill most of the way so it can feel quite draining, while not actually looking like being a hill - but the way back you can fly along though. There is a nice section just past Kilmacolm too for maybe another couple of miles. After that its into Port Glasgow and from there you need to watch out for glass etc and the surface of the track isn't so good either. From Paisley to Kilmacolm though the surface is excellent, apart from the one small section on the road through Elderslie.

There is a good ice cream shop in Kilmacolm which i'd recommend - maybe not on a day like today but on a hot sunny day. Also a good cake stop at Quarriers Village which you will pass by called 3 Sister Bake.

I'll look out for them, thanks! Just heading out now, rain isn't showing any signs of dying down. Guess I'll be getting wet then, bye! I'll get some pics for you guys

My memory card seems to be corrupted, might have lost my pictures

It was a fairly uneventful ride. The rain was just blasting down for the full two hours I was out. I wasn't wearing waterproofs but surprisingly, my top half didn't get very wet but my shorts and shoes were absolutely drenches.

Few things that happened:

Two guys standing in the middle of the path, drinking, asked me for a light - I kept my distance and changed down gears incase I had to make a quick getaway
Cycled up behind two police officers, they saw me and continued walking. Had to cycle onto the grass to get by

Like I said, uneventful. Cold, wet, rainy but enjoyable to some extent.

Decided today to go to Kilmacolm. It's around 11 miles away, so around 22 there and back.

Hoping to be able to do 40 miles for the round trip to Gourock by the end of the holidays.

Is there anything I need to take with me? It's raining outside and I expect that it will continue to rain all day.

Gloves
Water
Money
Phone

is all I can really think of right now, what other necessities are there?

Enjoy - take your time, and some sweeties of your choice, and 22 miles will be a piece of cake. Next stop - 40!

That's pretty much why I gave up cycling on "cycle" paths - there were very few cyclists on them! But lots of drunks, neds, kids, skaffs, dogs, glass, trees, horses - and the odd hedgehog! Much safer on the roads.... Glad you enjoyed it anyway Jaz.

Pretty much everything you described happened. Neds asked me for a light, dogs ran out infront of me, rabbits ran out infront of me, glass was everywhere and getting smacked by wet leaves is very annoying.
