Cycling is ... an activity where you travel, at speed, unprotected next to fast moving traffic a few feet from the ground, spills and falls are commonplace.

1. You must be mistaking me for Bradley. Fast I am not
2. Motorised traffic speeds at commute time are even slower than I am
3. I think that the last time I came off my bike was on ice about 3 winters ago. I just slid a bit on my arse. My head didn't touch the ground.

You should have had full body armour ! I can't talk though, I fell off at the other side slowing down avoiding the pile up - skinned both elbows - should have had elbow pads.

I was wearing natutal body armour at the time, I have since lost 4 stone :training:. Be up again probably next year for another session.

Im a little lost at your point here and Im not even going to answer your last comment.
The point is thinking for yourself and not slavishly following others especially if they may be mistaken. You really can't be happy with the reverse (lemming) strategy?

This is just nonesense I could pick any random point and do the same! Smoking,Drinking, eating habits.sleeping, going to school, speaking a Language, smacking of children, the list could go on all day. I choose to wear a helmet for my own reasons same as you choose to wear/not wear one for your reasons. I am not familiar with the "reverse lemming strategy".

Do you have some physical disability contributing to this? Then you might consider wearing extra protection including knees and elbows and maybe a full face helmet or swop to a trike. If not - you may find lessons on riding a bike gives you more protection than any of this.

Having said that I do have to admit frequent spills a couple of years ago whilst slowly mastering SPDs. As, by definition, the bike was stationary at the time a helmet would have been very helpful in hiding my embarrassment but not much else.

My condom remark has a point, you may say " how many times has my helmet saved my life", well Yes, you may bone and pull out and away with it for years, but it only takes once!

They all have points otherwise they wouldn't work.

Also, you are at a similar risk just being a pedestrian, so why are you not also suggesting that pedestrians wear helmets? That's simply not logically consistent.
Pedestrians are at risk of falling off a bicyle at speed and falling on their heads? That's a special type of pedestrian, called a "cyclist".
