Anyway good luck with your search  for .......... whatever it is

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Might be some useful information here. Being a bit stingy I have used a wooden roller myself (rolling pin).

Quote: How long an athlete rolls is also determined on a case-by-case basis. I usually allow five to 10 minutes for soft tissue activation work at the beginning of the session prior to warmup. If my athletes roll after their workout, it is done for the same length of time.

Cycling+ had an article on using a foam roller a couple of months back, I think. I bought one after having it recommended by the chap who did my bike fit - I just do a couple of minutes per position, before doing my stretching after a ride. The one targeting your IT band (like the picture above) hurts a bit mind!

Holy Moly! I just looked up TriggerPoint... Forty quid for a roller!?!

that's what I thought at first and that's why I have not bought one months before... I thought you are taking the mick! BUT after paying £70 for two massages, then £40 on the roller, I wish I had got it earlier and saved the £70 for the massage so far and more coming. I do feel a difference after a few days using it.
It is not just for injuries, you can use it before and after exercise to prevent them. And if your legs are stiff then you can roll and it helps the muscles. If you use it routinely the £40 is not that much after all. I cannot praise its efficiency enough. Honestly.

I don't not believe it... I was completely oblivious to rollers until very recently. It was pointed out to me at a recent bike fit that I've got tight IT bands and hamstrings, so rolling & stretching was recommended. Ultimately I just ended up getting an el-cheapo version for about £12 - I wasn't aware that such fancy versions existed!

I've had a foam roller for ages, great for easing tight muscles, especially the IT band. It was hard work and painful when I first started using one, so couldn't do it for long at all. These days I tend to use it as much as I feel is needed.. keep rolling over the tight/painful spots, until it eases it, remember to breathe. Loads of videos on youtube showing how it can be used on different areas too. I use mine several times a week, so I class it as a good investment, though I got mine for about £15 from physiosupplies.

You know I said on your thread in the duathlon/triathlon forum that I had a sore knee? Well I just used our foam roller on my ITB band (pretty much what is shown in your picture) and it has released whatever the problem was for the time being... I just use the roller for as long as I can bear the pain...
