I only take a rucksack if I'm going to the gym (change of clothes and towel) or if I'm shopping.
On my every day bike I have a satchel attached to the rack for phone, keys, purse and bike lock, and if I'm going out for a day's ride I squish things into my very small handbag which fits neatly over my shoulder.
For a 15 mile ride I probably wouldn't take anything other than phone and keys which fit in my chest pocket.

Don't you people who carry keys n jersey pockets worry about said keys puncturing you kidneys if you fall off?

Not sure why you'd need a couple of snacks for a ride of 15 miles? I'd just have water on that distance ride. Personally I don't see the need for a snack on anything under 30 miles or so. First aid kit I guess could come in handy. I just use a saddle bag and back pockets, to carry pump, levers, couple of tubes, multi tool, mobile phone, and puncture repair kit.
I have to carry snacks even for really short rides as i'm diabetic but its usually a couple of cereal bars in my jersey pocket ^_^
