We had the same thing. Wasp nest in ceiling space. In the little ones bedroom so we though best dealt with. Their entrance and exit was a small hole in the facia.
Called up bug exterminator. He used a long rod to inject poison. 5 minute job. No more wasps.

They're important pollinators.
Why cant they just pollinate without stinging people.......little barstewards.
Few years ago we were sat in the garden when one landed on Mrs Dave, stung her twice and flew off!!

I'm allergic to the stings. I try to stay away from them.
I didn't think I was as I've been stung before but out 2 Sundays ago & felt a sharp pain in the upper righthigh looked down to see a BIG wasp or something wasplike there which I batted off. By the time I got home the leg was already swelling, 2 days later the centre must have been about 2x1 inch which was bright red & very sore, then 3 inch diameter was swollen, took 10 days to go down & still have a mark aether the sting went in.

Every year wasps come and scrape fibre off the plant trellis by the back door. So far they haven't destroyed that so I think it'd take them a while to work their way through a joist.

That's why split bamboo is a better fence material than reed, which is notorious for attracting wasps.

There is a wasps' nest above my bathroom ceiling. I can hear them 'scratching' and occasionally one pops out of a gap by the light fitment.

There isn't an attic above the bathroom ceiling, just some joists and then the roof tiles.

.

It may be an idea to get it dealt with if they have an access route into habitable spaces. Come the autumn they are more likely to head to the warm inside than the cold outside.

Had lamb and pork at restaurant earlier Mrs GP and I. The waiter brought a foil tray with burning coffee to keep them away. When it had burnt out they came back and started eating what was left of the meat.

I got stung a couple of years ago, on the upper lip, and needed an ambulance and an afternoon in the local A&E, within ten minutes I couldn't talk sense and needed a passer by to call the ambulance, by the time the ambulance arrived I wasn't very with it and it took several days before I was right.

When I were a teenager my mates dad was stung on the leg. Unfortunately, it was right over the femoral artery and it induced a heart attack. He survived and was eventually fine, but it's incredible how a tiny little thing nearly killed a hulking great builder.

There was a young man from Dundee
Who got stung on the nose by a wasp.
When asked if it hurt
He said "No, not much
It can do it again if it likes"

Even if the nest was in an accessible loft, pest control would still only spray the entry point on the outside of the roof. The wasps will then carry the powder back to the nest and it will kill off the colony.
