Do these cables look right to you?

....see now im wondering why the rear mech cant be operated from the left shifter and the front mech from the right shifter? Wouldn't that make more sense?

Tend to be different change positions in the changers.

One lever will have two or three changes, and the other 7,8,9,10 depending on the rear setup.

The two are therefore not interchangeable

It seems that the bare wire criss-cross is OK but I find the configuration of cables around the h'bars untidy; have the person who keeps that kitchen so neat take a look.

How does this cross over routing work with the plastic cable guide under the bottom bracket? Doesn't crossing over make for an awkward angle going in to the guide?

the guide deals with it fine. Yes it's coming in a tight angle to the mouth of the guide but it's the same low-friction plastic as the rest of it.
