I'm all for having a day off if you don't feel like it, after all (most of us) aren't in serious training for an enormous event so it makes little difference overall!

However, in light of a fall and knock to your confidence (assuming no injuries), I'd say get back on the bike as soon as possible. The longer you put it off the more time you have to dwell on what happened.

We all fall off from time to time, sometimes dramatically, sometimes embarrassingly . . .

I got lost at the end our our street once. They (roadworks/gas people) diverted me to 2 roads down and I didn't know that bit of the village as my parents had told me not to go there.

Just dust yourself down and get back on the bike. Especially if the tumble has knocked your confidence, even if it's just for a mile. Then have a nice rewarding bit of cake (if that's your thing) and take the rest of the day off exercise. It's what I do.

Update. The weather has been awful here so I didn't get back on the bike until after work this evening. I rode a 5 mile loop around the lanes and managed the hill without walking. Smiled all the way around. Now for some banana cake! Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'm looking forward to a weekend of more rides.

Well done, keep up the good work. I'm still using an old ordnance survey map to plan a route before I set off, I sit down with a cuppa tea and plan an interesting country lane route, always trying to avoid any uninteresting major highways.
