I have had many bad rides during my first months of cycling. And you never forget them! I came off and fractured my wrist in August took a while to get my confidence back, but doesn't take long - and it makes you a better cyclist. Keep up the good work x

As an aside, don't rely totally on technology. Batteries run out, signals fail. If i'm in uncharted territory, I take an OS or road map with me.

Keep up the riding though, and well done on increasing the distance.

You're doing great!
We all have wobbles, falls and self-doubt.
I tend to stick to routes I'm familiar with due to my Aspergers....I'm happy to go along on a new route if someone else is with me.
Could that be an option for you? Find a cycle buddy?

Thanks, ScotiaLass. The lanes around here tend to look very similar so what seemed like a route I knew, only took one wrong turn to send me offf in the wrong direction! I think I know where I went wrong so I'll give it another go tomorrow. Cycling buddy is a good idea but no-one I know is into cycling - though my partner is getting interested.

I've been cycling for over a month and have increased from first rides of 3 miles to a 7 mile loop with a few hills (which I struggle with but am battling them and enjoying it). I was feeling quite pleased with this. A bit disheartened after today's ride. I got lost, had my first fall and was very relieved to get home, tired and sore! I took my mobile for maps but think I need to mount it on my bars so I can see it for route guidance. My confidence is a bit shaken and I don't know whether to rest tomorrow or have another go. Suggestions welcome.
I'd rest your body for a couple of days, then just do a small easy loop to feel ok again. I'm just starting to venture a bit further, check, out a route on the OS map and take it with me just incase. Good luck!

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
Which end of Somerset? Cheddar and Axbridge Cyclists used to be a lovely relaxed group but did expect a small membership fee after a few rides.

I had a similar experience a couple of weeks into my cycling.I took a wrong turn which led me down some fairly unsuitable tracks that caused me to fall as I had been down some really steep hills and was knackered I didn't feel That turning back was an option, at one point I had to wade through a pool That my bike got stuck in, its funny now but wasn't at the time.
After I fell off my confidence was a bit shaky but you soon regain it.
Valuable lesson all that's marked on google maps aren't necessarily Roads :-)

If it makes you feel any better, a guy I ride with quite a lot manages to fall off practically every time we go out. Don't worry about it!
