Hated school until I was eleven. Pointless exercise in crappy teachers and I was bullied constantly. I bloomed when I went to secondary school. Loved those five years. It helped as I shot up to just under 6' at 13, I didn't have to take any bullying. Teachers were a pleasure as I was in a minority hardcore of 30 pupils out of 210 who actually wanted to be there.

I hated it, except for sport, fortunately I did manage to pay just enough attention as I knew some O'levels could come in handy if I wanted a decent job, I think I disliked virtually all academic learning, but as soon as I got to work and started learning things on real stuff like machines I loved it.

I learned to touch type after I left school. Very useful skill, although it probably means I go on a bit on here... Not many men can do it, and people are constantly impressed.

Anyway, school... I think I was bored for much of it. Weeks spent teaching things that seemed obvious, self-explanatory or intuitive to me. English lessons sat listening to other kids stumbling to read aloud a book I'd read years before.

Does this make me sound big-headed?

I have nothing but fond memories of junior school.
Secondary school was generally OK, apart from spates of being racially bullied in my early years there.

Just that one correct comment on my typing.Has brought back a memory.46 years old.I was very tall skinny had a squint and scruffy. We were a bit short of cash most weeks.
Well one lad Lance Kilvington had been goading me for weeks.I was a shy quiet lad,no trouble to anyone. But the point had been reached.I hit him, hard, down he went.My knee over his throat and my fists at his face.
I was dragged off him by teachers who had been called.I was marched to the Headmasters office.I had to wait and wait and wait. So long infact that i got nervous and promptly threw up right infront of the study door.I was taken away to get cleaned up and no punishment was forthcoming.
Noone ever bothered me again during my time at Allerton Grange Comprehensive School.1962/63 -1966.
