Couldnt shimano and garmin have got together to make gear selection info an ant+stream.

I think they missed a trick with electronic shifting. It couldnt have been too hard to make it communicate with a garmin to record what chainring and gear you are in.

Trick was not missed, the latest 11 speed Di2 is ANT+ compatible and can display cadence and what gear your in, obviously manufactures have to support this but many have stated they will. Shimano also have the ANT+ Flight Deck display upon which you can show battery level, adjust the gears, adjust the mutishift option, and do diagnostics.
