Dehumidifier recommendations

One thing to be careful of in old properties is that a moisture content is normal in the walls and undue drying out can cause issues with mortar and pointing falling out.

Domestic dehumidiers aren't powerful enough to fully dry out solid masonry, the wall will alway take moisture from the exterior air faster than these units can draw it through the wall.

My thoughts are that leaving my windows open lets in damp air. Maybe I shouldn't open my windows in autumn/winter.

Normally 150% wet in Manchester The garage dehumidifier is currently filling it's bucket every day, and more.

Our cottage is around 45-50% humidity with aircon running in auto mode to hold air temp at 21°C. The underfloor heating downstairs means humidity is usually around 40-45%

Ceiling fans as well as other fans can help dry a room with minor dampness on certain days imo, prob helps to open a window

I've turned the fan down on my machine, which I presume will mean the dehumidifier not collecting as much water as it was doing when the fan was on full. I'll find out when I empty it in the morning after I leave it on overnight.

meaco are great. I have the 12L just outside our bathroom and it makes a big difference in the fall / winter. 20L is probably a better size for a whole house issue though (oversizing rather than undersizing will save on running costs).

Just added a Meaco 8DDL to the conservatory - picked up one in Homebase when passing for 25% off. We'd been looking for an additional dehumidifier, but being in a conservatory, a desiccant one is better for the cold. It appears to be using about 300w so not too bad.

I have mine on for about 3 hours every evening. Like @ColonelFaz I place it outside my bathroom when I have a late night shower. It certainly absorbs the steam out of my bathroom after I've showered as the window at the top of my stairs and my bedroom window, both which steamed up before I bought it are now clear after my shower, since buying the dehumidifier. I'd say after 3 hours of it being on at a low setting there'll be about 2.5 litres in the water holder.
