I cycled almost 8 hours a day with my iPhone attached securely to my handlebars over 3 days, so unless touring, surely that must be enough? Never understood the lure of cycle GPS when a lot of people have readily available and perfectly good phones myself.

Usual caveat of happy to be proved wrong, of course applies!

Xperia Z3 for me, can't fault the battery life (it's phenomenal) and I've recently discovered I can simultaneously use endomondo and satnav so it simply tells me which way to go rather than needing the screen on thus saving even more battery life, so I too can't understand the lure of individual GPS units it just seems another thing to worry about

I've been using Garmins of various description for about 15 years now. Never had much trouble with them. Mind you I've never used Strava. Perhaps that's where the problem lies?

I don't see the problem? With Garmin connect installed on my desktop pooter all I need do once a week is switch the poorer on, plug in the Garmin and.. nothing else, Connect extracts it automatically. Tapiriik is set up to share it with Strava and Endo automatically. Really can't see how that could be made any easier.
That's my experience too, largely. MapMyRide and Strava are updated automagically (along with Connect, I suppose, I don't use it other than as the sync provider). Endomondo is slightly more complex, in that I have to use internet explorer, but it seems easy enough.

I should probably look at that Tapi-doodah thing.

How. My wife, eldest and youngest I phones won't last 8hours of "normal" use let alone mapping and guidance.

Are you topping up with an external charger?

I wonder if your unit has some sort of problem, given the issues you seem to have with it BOAB.

Mine's been pretty much plug in & leave alone since I got it.

Nope! iPhone 6, endomondo and google map plan running, screen on auto brightness. You'd be surprised! I do of course charge in the evenings, and I do carry a small charging unit just in case.

Not really. How could it be any easier that plugging your Garmin into your laptop?! Can't you not still just take the file from the Garmin if you wish? I can understand this may be a pita if not uploading to your own computer and not having the sync setup.

I did not use garmin express at all , i used to upload directly from edge to strava without having to upload to express and wait for it to sync across .

I use the Edge 200 and it is a breeze. Battery lasts yonks. Has all the features I need.

GE is foolproof to use and sync's to Strava/RWGPS seamlessly (might take a few minutes but that's not critical in my life). Can just dump the file across if I wanted to do it faster.

I just wish the GC interface was more customisable - other than that I struggle to see how it can be bettered.
