Because Marmion is a troll, that is why. Surely nobody can be that much of a bitter twisted person otherwise.

I've already told you that I am not bitter. If you cannot accept that I have differing views then that's fine. No need to try to claim I am bitter, cos I am not. But I can see no reason for her being draped in the Union flag; that is something which should be reserved for people representing their country and achieving something whilst competing against other nations. Not for raising money, and their own profile, by doing something for TV.

No reason maybe but does it do any harm?

No harm at all. But, right or wrong, the privilege of wrapping oneself in the flag of the country one represents has become associated with having achieved something of note within ones chosen sport/other activity when competing against others. All Davina has done is "do something".

Much in the same way as I could drape myself in the Union flag for having a shít, or achieving a PB in a time trial, or riding a distance further than I have previously not achieved.

Maybe she won the "most attention-seeking needy celebrity to ever do something for whatever charity she is doing it for" award - I do recall other celebs doing some events in past years, which registered with me as "achievements" but without the "neediness" of Davina's efforts.

However, I'll watch the show (I am sure it'll be a drawn out affair so may miss some of it) just to see if she deserves more respect than I have given her - she may do, as I am sure the stuff I have seen is heavily weighted towards attracting the attention of people who are quite needy themselves, and she may very well be hard core.

Sorry Fnaar, Davina took her wedding ring off for the journey, but only for safe-keeping:

She was in loads of pain, her knees had gone, the swimming and cycling was low impact but that's a hollow phrase when you consider the distances she's done.

'I’m really tired, my legs are really tired. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to do it but I’m going home! Matthew’s got my wedding ring and I’m not putting it on until I cross the finish line so for me today that’s a massive incentive.'

When she crossed the finish line her husband was there, to put the wedding ring back on her finger:

Chapeau. Gutsy lady.

I keep thinking about the 1000 km mark on London-Edinburgh-London, they'd run out of most food, so I got a tuna sandwich and a handful of crisps in a plastic cup. I don't order tuna sandwiches at the best of times, and my appetite had completely collapsed. While I tried to choke these down, a "nice" lady sat beside me telling me I wasn't going to make so I should pack it in now.

No I didn't make it. Only covered another 165km, cycling all night through driving rain in the Howardian Hills with water a foot deep on the road in place, to the next stop where I managed a cold sausage roll, but couldn't swallow a slice of bread and butter. The next station closed before I got there, so I caught the train home.

Yes she's doing it for publicity for herself but the bottom line is its a tough challenge and its for charity

Why people wish ill will on people raising money for charity is one of life's mysteries?

The think is the event is risk assessed to death to make sure that the celeb will be successful. On paper what looks like an outrageous challenge to Joe Public will have been carefully matched to a heavily, psychologically and physically assessed celeb whose chances of failure are minimal. There's too much at stake if the celeb fails TV programming wise.

I don't watch the 'sporting challenges' because they are media-junket juggernauts rolling relentlessly from start to finish with the outcome totally predictable. Can anyone recall a failure?

Davina might be a gutsy woman but it has to be remembered that the challenge was doable by other women whose media attraction is zero and where's the fun in watching an unknown completing the event.

I wish her no ill and it's a great achievement but I'm immune to the hype.

Why would she want to publicize she is already extremely busy?

As for your second line, from personal experience most of the people I know who do that are the one's that are extremely unlikely to do anything for anybody in need.

Classic example on Thursday, an elderly lady in Horncastle fell off of her bike I was about 20 yards away when it happened with people between myself and her, I noticed in the time it took me to get to her 3 people at least walk past. Now that is being uncharitable, mind you it is Lincolnshire.

I take the point completely, but I think in this case the assessments and planning were blown out by the weather and I do believe that this challenge was far harder than either intended or expected
