Currently bucketing it down in Glossop and she's due here about lunchtime. I think she is climbing the Snake by bike, then running along the Pennine Way from the summit to Edale which is about 6 miles. Oh, and it looks like it will be snowing.

Definitely a day to stay indoors and watch the Olympics so fair play to her

I had hypothermia once. Your mind kinda shuts down, it's really hard to do anything and you're like a zombie. Nobody noticed.

Surely it is the press and the comic relief bods whipping it up to be rather epic to draw attention to the good cause. Your average not cyclist is amazed at a 30 miler.
I'm sure you're right - she is a regular recreational cyclist so a day out in filthy weather won't be a novelty to her either. Overdoing it for the cameras is how she has to earn her living.

I'm a bit more than a regular recreational cyclist and I wouldn't nowadays willingly contemplate voluntarily going out on a bike to rack up the planned mileage in some of conditions she faced. Don't judge me.

She didn't look like she could finish on a marathon to me but I hope she can, she has shot up in my estimation.

User13710 is not going to be happy with me, but here goes:

this can only be good for her career. I don't watch broadcast television any more, so wasn't aware she was still on. Now I've googled her twice. I can see others in the thread growing in respect, admiration and affection. These feelings are £pounds to her.

So, while her only interest may be in raising money for charity, I can't help feeling there is an agent there saying "it will be brilliant for your career"

I think it is naïve to expect these sorts of things to be 100% altruistic. If it was some easy, 20 mile per leg relay then I would probably be as cynical as some who have posted here. But this looks proper hard. She could have softened it quite a bit and still got 99% of the coverage she's getting now.

Snowing hard in Glossop now so conditions on the Snake Pass will be terrible. I wouldn't fancy riding up it today so well done if somehow she gets up it

No sh1t Sherlock. Career broadcaster enhances her career - why should that be held against her? Any more than it should against others who have done difficult things to raise money? David Walliams, for example, or that Blue Peter woman who went across the Arctic.
I was thinking more of those posters who were belittling her achievement because they don't happen to like her very much, which is pretty much a definition of ungenerous.

Nothing against Davina, I feel the same when someone tells me they are cycling London to Paris, or climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for "charity".

Inspired by this thread I watched her on BBC News. I'm caught in two minds now. I don't like her so I was never going to be inspired to donate purely by her efforts and I'm struggling to get past my reaction to her collapsing everywhere. But, she's doing it, well I think she is, I've only seen her being carried everywhere so far and blubbing to the camera but I presume there's more. Now compared to the inestimable Helen Skelton....actually there is no comparison.

Nor would I - and I wasn't. Just so we are clear, I think that what she is doing is a serious undertaking and I hope she raises wagonloads of cash.

I have a feeling somebody didn't dress her properly though. She had a cyclist with her who looked perfectly comfortable with the weather. Noticed when she set off later she had more kit on

Sitting as we are nice and comfortable in front of a computer, how do we know how hard it is doing this challenge?
