These cars with their lights on... autosensing are they? So as soon as a machine flicks it's lights on I should drench myself in custard?

Ger off! You're having a laugh.

I've just seen a presentation on how they do things in Copenhagen. Dark clothing, no helmets, low fatalities and cycling to work at 35% of modal share.

I was there a few weeks ago. The number of cyclists was very impressive and the vast majority appeared to be in normal work clothing. I was though suprised by the numbers wearing helments - far more than in Holland.

says the poster who started it all off by saying

When it talks like a duck troll and walks like a duck troll it's a duck troll.

So that's a no to any evidence then! Just imply I'm a troll and say bla bla bla. You should join a debating team with razor sharp wit and logic like that.

I think copenhagens cycle structure looks like an excellent model. Would I be correct in believing cyclists are to the main given their own lanes? If so then it seems fair to argue that visibility is less of an issue. It's where there is no traffic segregation that I feel there is a benefit for cyclists to wear an item of Bright clothing.

As a quick aside I see (from Copemhagenize.com) that "The sad fact is that Copenhagen is the only city in the western world where cycling levels are falling. We're now at 35%, according to the City of Copenhagen. "

After two exceptionally cold winters, cycling to work dropped from 37 to 35%. I don't think this is cause for too much hand wringing.

Regarding cycle lanes, cars need to turn across them to go into side roads. Yet they manage to avoid mangling cyclists, who are wearing dark clothing. Why do you think this is?

That kitten could easily fall off ... shouldn't it really be wearing a helmet!

And what if it went out at night?

While driving eldest daughter to school this morning it was foggy, visibility was probably 100m max.

At one point coming in the opposite direction I (eventually) saw someone riding a bike (deliberately not using the word cyclist though). They had no lights on, but they were wearing a high viz jacket.

Having started reading this thread earlier in the day it got me wondering if wearing hi viz made people more likely to take risks on the basis that they are wearing hi viz and must therefore be seen?

Oh and to add balance to this I have a number of fluro yellow tops and a number of black ones too. I must say that I seem to be getting more black ones lately. Plus when it gets dark hi viz is as hard to see as any other colour, it then becomes a case of reflective materials and lights.

Why is that the first things that my eyes settled on were the black motorcycles. Like magnets for my eyes they were guv.

What does "Raymond Novelty Store" sell? It looks like a clothes shop?

[QUOTE 2211364, member: 1314"]Right, here's another holiday snap example of being seen and safe on the roads. Now, in this photo, what are the 3 most visible objects? That's right. The yellow bananas, the whites of the cauliflowers and the orange turban. Lesson from this is that cyclists need to wear orange turbans, and carry bananas and cauliflowers. That open door, by the way, is the entrance to our family home It opens right onto the fruit and vegetable section of the bazaar. It's the only house in the bazaar. It's cool!

Note how completely those black cars are hidden and invisible........ how irresponsible not to be far more visible

Surely they should be made to have HiViz markings before someone drives into them

The most powerful critiques of your own OP are in your own posts. I don't need to debate, with or without wit or logic, when you are tying yourself in knots. But you seem like a decent sort so I'll unpack it for you....

You made a statement
What is it with the new fad for buying and riding around in black kit during the winter months? I get that it is slimming and you get to look like a ninja or such like, but a bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss.
Less vanity more visibility!

This is anecdotal. A completely evidence free zone. People have responded to it and you've expressed personal incredulity. Along the way various appeals to authority have been made e.g. the police wear hi-viz and the odd bandwagon along the lines of "look at the number of people who wear it" has rolled by. You OP is an example of what I believe to be a false cause; that wearing black kit decreases a cyclists safety in the winter months. Now you are demanding that people come up with evidence to counter it? The burden of proof lies with the person who is making a claim, and is not upon anyone else to disprove.

Witty and logical enough for you?

Their luck will run out one day and they will only have themselves to blame.;)

What black cars? There are no black cars. You can see black cars?
