Dacia Logan MCV .... update

So if you're looking for a low-cost voluminous and economic new motor, put aside your disbelief and try a Dacia Logan. After all, people laughed when I bought an early Skoda Octavia .... they're no joke now .... but neither are they a bargain.

no i quite often have to carry 3 road bikes in my current car so its a qualifying factor for my car

Good report on what looks like a bargain motor, we have just swapped an Audi A1 2.0ltr diesel for a Skoda Fabia Estate, 1200,petrol. a much more friendly runabout than the Audi (DPF issues with short runs) it has roof rails a large boot and can be fitted with a bike rack inside that holds 2 bikes, the quality is not Audi standard but its not shabby its as good as if not better than the last Focus I drove, mpg seems decent and will probably improve with a few more miles on the clock, very happy with swap, as is the wife (main driver) who was against it to start with.

How are you measuring fitment "quality"?

It's not a heavy car and the rear suspension becomes a bit bouncy when loaded which may not be the perfect characteristic of a tow car. The 1.5dci Renault engine is a known quantity and seems pretty tractable.

My caravan is not a 'proper' caravan. Its a Freedom van, tiny wee things that weigh less than a Smart Car. Hubster reckons if a Rover Streetwise will tow one, a Dacia would have no problems. Only point I would pick up on is that cars actually cost the amount they lose during ownership, not the amount paid. Often the "bargain" cars start off cheap but then drop by a similar amount as the "quality" car.

I don't do many miles and do not need a car for work so go for a big old Merc that is now just about flat lining in depreciation.

On the other hand, I do notable miles and keep cars a fairly long time so initial depreciation becomes a moot point. Furthermore I get 4 years warranty which ain't all bad.

Absolutely. My Golf Estate hasn't lost a penny in years. It was pretty much worthless then and it's pretty much worthless now.

Is that the super estelle? Me too. Auto mag once described the super estelle as the nearest thing to a 911. It was noisy, uncomfortable, handled badly and the engine was at the wrong end!
