There's an old distasteful 'joke' (if you can call it that) about African runners being the fastest in the world as they were promised a meal at the finishing line.

I think he might not have known about Bolt's like for chicken.

This was the quote that was being referred to, when asked what he did before the 100m Olypics final in China.

He said: "I woke around 11am and decided to watch some TV and had some nuggets. Then I slept for a couple of hours more. Then I got some more nuggets and came to the track."

Anyway nuggets are from MacDonalds not KFC

A top class kilo rider does the first 250m in about 18secs, and the second 250m in approx 13 to 14secs, the flying 200m is normally done in around 10 seconds, so probably about 8 seconds for the first 50m, then the next 50m would take about 2.5secs, so I guess Cav would come by at around about 110 to 120m.

From a standing start, the best track cyclists get to 250m in about the same time the best sprinters get to 200m. That means the cyclist will overtake sometime around 160m - 180m - someone else can do the maths more precisely.

If I hadn't heard that Bolt liked nuggets I may well have assumed something similar. I think it's important to speak up if one thinks something is wrong even if one does make the odd genuine mistake. Besides I see that you explained yourself and apologised and there was no harm done.

With hindsight what one could have done differently in this situation would be to ask a question rather than make a statement.

I must apologise about my ill-conceived KFC chicken nuggets comment.

It was outrageous to make such a statement.

I should have realised that they are in fact sold at McDonalds.

It nice to see that a flippant comment helped inform the discussion about a hypothetical race though.
