There really are no winners here.

BBC Website new article

Not expressing any opinions on rights and wrongs here, but it's not a great outcome for anyone.

Yes, watch out for doors, but equally so watch out for your temper is also the case.

opening a car door without checking it's safe to do so is a lapse of concentration/failure to think... punching somebody in the face is deliberate.

two wrongs don't make right... but the cyclist deserves the charge.

Let's face it, nobody would be saying 'there are no winners here' if a motorist had murdered a cyclist. Forget the tribalism for a second. A man punched another man, killing him. He deserves to be sent down. Justice is the winner.

Ok, I take your point.

However.

If a motorist had murdered a cyclist and had gone to prison, there would definitely be no winners either.
A man is dead, another is in prison with a criminal record.
Hardly a great outome whoever the victim or perpetrator may be.

But, agreeing with you again, justice is the winner.

Sorry for getting on my high horse!

The court heard Lambeth and the other cyclists fled the scene after the attack. Lambeth only gave himself up after he had been identified as a suspect.

Coward he should have got more than 18 months for taking someone's life so recklessly not to even stop and offer assistance.

We did read the bit that says he hears voices in his head didn't we folks ?

Which kinds of compounds the tragedy IMHO.

I was by no means saying "this cyclist behaved in this fashion, therefore this is a general cycling issue."

It is more of a mental health issue as you and others have quite rightly pointed out.

Take out that aspect though and were still left with the same actions and consequences.
It's a shame that the dead man played some sort of part in the sequence of events.

As I said at the outset, no winners here.

+1 no sympathy from me.

Others ?
A quick scan of this thread and I'm wondering if you too hear voices

The following posts suggest that folks are scanning the article briefly and missing the
detail.

At one time this would have been reported from the slightly warped angle of
crazed lunatics wandering the street waiting to explode. Now we have the killer
cyclists fashion in the tabloids which may have influenced the writer of this BBC news
item's choice of headline. Though it's not the major point of concern about this incident
and shouldn't be treated as such.
