I’m coming towards the end of an FTP builder plan I came across on intervals.icu. I’m not convinced I’ll see much in the way of gains but the variety of workouts has kept the training interesting. I’ve an enforced week off near the end of October as I’ve some travelling with work, then I’ll hit another block of training up to Christmas. A wee rest then I’ve 10 days in Tenerife in mid January to factor into my training regime 🙌

The bizarre temperature changes continue (not that bizarre actually #GlobalWarming). Last Monday was 24deg C and today was barely 7deg C and they are predicting 2deg C over night
:exploding_head:
I enjoyed the ride though as I was nice and warm sitting in the line when my mate done a tempo session with sprints (with him taking the cold air for me it was more like a Z1/2 session with sprints, that was the only time I took the air
:joy:
). Delightfully at the cafe we were joined by a few familiar faces.

Looks like i have 4-6 weeks of base building coming up (plus one zwift race perweek to keep me sane) - then some low cadence work to complement the Gym work I'll also be doing.

Added my known events up to March 24 into the plan and let the AI update the plan. They are just 100km C events through the winter, one a month to keep ticking over and practise my pacing, eating, drinking etc. Plus as they aren’t important, they can be a good test for the legs if I’m feeling good and fancy pushing the pace. March is my first 200km event of 2024, then the distances climb till my main 2200km event in July.

Bit of aerobic development work today, colder than of late, still shorts but warmer layers on top half.

What is your weights regime @Norry1 ? I’ve just rescued a weights bench from my dads shed, and bought some plates off FB marketplace in Friday.

This weekend was a club spin with a few short efforts thrown in , and today 3 sets of 5 40/20’s Z5/6 for the top end. Was nice and sunny and the forecast for the week ahead looked looks good too. The winter gear was on today including some new long sleeved thermal kit from China 😀

It's all legs at the minute. I use the machines quite a bit as I have a history of tweaking my back when I do free squats etc. The plan is to add deadlifts / single leg deadlifts. I have put 3 sessions a week in my calender and hope to make most of them.

Leg Extensions
Hams
Leg Press
Single Leg Press
Calf Raise
Lunges
Kettlebell Squats
Adductor
Abductor
Plank

Got a couple of winter leggings out of my “out of season” clothing box. Tomorrow could be my first ride in 3/4s since last April. Got some night riding end of week, which will likely mean my winter longs.

I try and keep my training outside even in winter unless it’s icy.

I had a 6 mile run this morning in the dark - I still go for shorts and t-shirt with hi-viz vest when running despite the cold - I tend to overheat too much otherwise. Then a cycle home from work - 60 minutes relatively easy just spinning the legs. It’s getting dark now by the time I’m getting home, and setting off directly into the setting sun which I’m always nervous about.

In other news my Knee felt a bit of a sharp pain after lifting a heavy outdoor plant pot - hopefully nothing too serious as I have to cycle to work in the morning as that’s were my car is left overnight.

Some VO2 max on a local hill, 4 min intervals. I always go for reaching that laboured breathing state (out of condition steam train I like to call it) and let the power just take care of itself. Out for just over an hour.

6 miles is a long run for me…at about 8:30 min/mile pace so just under the hour. Im very toasty by the end. I dont think I could mentally handle much longer than an hour running let alone 3hrs.

My point was, you can wear much lighter clothing and stay warm if you’re not out for long (for instance up to 1 hour) but for much longer periods you need warmer clothing as generally you’ll not be working as hard and will have stops and fatigue will start to affect how warm you can keep yourself.
