Got an almost 3 month old so literally nothing outdoors this year so far! (Aside from the odd short jaunt on the hybrid). Hoping to start commuting a bit if I can though. Might book some leave and just take off towards the Mournes some day too

Yeah definitely should! Normally do lap the Lough but not signed up this year, are you doing any?

I did the Shimna Wheelers sportive today - training plan went out the window a bit as I rounded it up to the 100 miles so definitely need a rest day tomorrow. That was my first sportive in years. No other events planned yet but will have to get some done. I’ll let you know and if you’re heading toward the Mournes some time give me a shout. 👍

My usual Monday fartlek day. Really pleased. Fastest time on the route for over 2 years and really good times on the the two hills. I found I am able to hold the efforts longer and in a bigger gear. I've even started to shed a few pounds. Rest of the week nice and steady with longest ride of 3 1/2 hours.

I did my first indoor workout for a while tonight. I missed thrme early train so didn’t get back till near 8pm which gave me just over an hour before it got dark. I probably could have got an outdoor session in with the cool down in the dark but the TdF is on so I decided to watch the Re-live instead and do Goat Citadel indoors instead. I think at the end of the first block I was just getting into the VO2max zone but I let my cadence fall too much during the latter 2 blocks and although I exceeded the power target I don’t think I properly got into the VO2max zone at the end of them

Maybe rather than a 22degC corridor I should have went out instead

Oh with it being my first indoors session for a while I never had my fan setup right and I stopped a couple of times in the recovery intervals to adjust them.

Two hours later they are still going!

Training indoors tonight was probably a mistake. It was forecast thunder and lightning tonight so I gave my apologies and I was going to do my TrainerRoad planned 1:30 SS workout instead but I decided save my legs for tomorrow night's chaingang if its dry and Saturdays TT and used TR's TrainNow feature to select a Z2 workout instead. TN suggested Cheeha. A short while later I was glad I'd made that call the RPE felt higher than Z2 and I feel like I’m starting to come down with something (hopefully thats just do do with the trainer corridor being 23deg, the Lasko fan and the 3 others just didn’t cut the mustard tonight). All the time I was staring out the window waiting for that thunder storm which never came :-/ Annoyingly my shifter cable is fraying again and whilst its actually pulling up the cassette ok (down gears) its snagging and not going into the 3 highest gears which probably would have helped with the cheeha sprints.

Although TR say it was an Endurance workout (Z2) GC puts it as a Tempo (Z3) workout and my legs agree, Reassuringly thou my HR was mostly Z2

Completed 3 hours of low cadence , big gear interval work. A Strava segment PB is now 39.8km/h, had I known how close it was I might have put in just that bit more to tip it over 40 km/h. Next time…

Of course I had the contents of the Atlantic dumped on me from about half way through the session.

Was doing some threshold outdoors when chain broke. Managed 15 mins of threshold till breakage. Fixed chain with chain tool, but ended session and headed home after. It had started raining heavily at that point anyway.

I don't carry one so I would have been nackered.

Same here…I really should carry a quick link and breaker tool. Only suffered a chain break once but fortunately was less than a mile from my parents house where my brother was keeping his bike so a quick bike change and I was sorted 😅

A decent week of training for me. I’m coming to the end of my “Build phase” with workouts as follows:
  • Monday - Rest day after doing a 100 miler the day before
  • Tues - 6 x 2min Z5 VO2max (low Z6)
  • Wednesday - 2 hours Z2 endurance
  • Thurs- 8 x 15second all out sprints (plan said 6 seconds but I find for me that to win any sprint in a real event I’d need to be deep in the well for more than 6 seconds - ideally I’d go early at 30 seconds so I’ll build to that point ver the next few weeks)
  • Fri - 1 hour recovery spin
  • Sat - Rest day (well I did a 4 mile east jog this morning)
  • Tomorrow. - plan is for a 4 hour endurance spin which I’ll do with a small group from my club.
Next week is a bit of a rest week with FTP test at the end. Hopefully I’ll see improvement in the numbers 🤗

A couple of hours of tempo today. Strong westerly blowing. But blue skies have returned after recent rains.

I think I'm up the road from you circa 70miles and they were only back continuously here for the morning after that it was 🌦️
I dont have a power meter on my gravel bike but it was HR z4 touching on z5 for 6miles when the first heavy shower started. Lol it stopped and was 🌤️ again when I was a mile from home
