I cycled through the Rotherhithe tunnel many years ago - N to S and it was pretty much all downhill! Nothing overtook me (I don't think I went slower than 25MPH) - quite exhilarating. My return was via the Greenwich foot tunnel

The Friday Night Ride to the Coast used the tunnel on a good few occasions, albeit about 1am when not a lot of traffic, and what traffic there was couldn't overtake 30 or 40 cyclists.

Ots a general misconception by some of the public.
I rode 5 miles to get a haircut some years ago and the lady was kinda horrified when I said I'd cycled there (via a dual)
But you can't ride there !
Yes you can, it's dual carriageway, not motorway.
Oh....

I used to ride this dual all round Peterborough years ago, it's a 25 mile circuit. I stopped as the years passed because of increasing traffic, and particually cars exiting at 70mph makes it hard to get over those exits just too dangerous here now.
Add the fact a former colleagues son was crippled for life on his bike at one of those exits back in the 70s I think...
Ironically, some single carriageways are more dangerous than duals...

A couple of times when the Rowing Lake Tarmac Path has been flooded my mate as got us to go up the Longthorpe Parkway and round the Nene Parkway to Oundle Road. When I've been on own though, I've went the long way by town (3 or 4 miles v 1mile) I've occasionally took the gravel path near to the Rowing Lake but often the flood is nearer to the Mere and thats no good either.

Even locally it is not well known that you can cycle through the Mersey Tunnel at certain time

but only the old tunnel

You are not allowed to cycle through the Queensway between Monday to Friday from 6am to 8pm, or on Sundays between 8am and 9pm from April 1 to September 30.

I knew someone who did it
apparently going downhill is great - if rather scary if there are cars around

the second half is not so easy - just a long grind - with little room in the lanes

I be it was cheaper than £2m (even taking into account inflation), its even got a roof

2 million? Christ, Did they go through MoD procurement to buy it?

That isn't actually the cost of the bus.

It is the cost of the contract to provide the service, including three buses (which will be electric) and running them for 3 years, with at least the first year being free to use.

Still seems rather excessive, though considering most new coaches cost between £200K and £300K, and these will be bespoke design, I would expect the cost of three of them to be in excess of £1 million.

I was there on one of those occasions. There was hardly any traffic but it was a very smelly unpleasant place. Not somewhere I'm planning to return.

There is a footway and you can walk through. Although why anyone would want to I don't know. If the traffic was busy and you really needed to cross the Thames there then you could ride on the footway. You're pretty much guaranteed not to come into contact with any pedestrians.

Funny that , funny peculiar that is, you can cycle Rotherhithe, but not the Blackwall, not that you'd want too, I 'm not sure about the Greenwich for tunnel, tho' cyclist so use it.
I have done all 3 in my time ,but not ever cycled them.

I'd be interested in an open day for pedestrians and/or cyclists to go through the Silvertown Tunnel before it formally opens to traffic, but I can't see any such plan.
