We had a training ride planned for today...Marple and then to the Cat and Fiddle, Chinley Head, Chunal, Holme Moss and Isle of Skye road back to Marple. I skipped work yesterday on the strength of a better weather forecast and went out for a ride instead. I went in work today. Bloody hell, it was windy this morning with lots of branches down on the roads.

It's fun with the right tyres; I switched to slick tyres on my mtb to make my commute easier and then went for a rainy hack around the local reservoir - it was terrifying! Great fun though!
Good, it's not just me then who thought, Spring's here, summer's round the corner, who needs treads? And then had a shock when winter returned this week and my stopping distance could be measured in decades:wacko:

So glad I went for a cycle on Saturday...mind you it was raining then, and after 30 miles I was braking by faith alone.. ..wondered why my hands had been stiff this week, thought it was all the knitting...
Must say though, lots of friendly cyclists out there..

I rode in the rain on Saturday - a hard 5 miles...12 miles in dryness on Sunday and rode to work yesterday, dry again. Today, I am off work and it's really wet now but expected to dry out, so should get out later. Maybe I need to dust off the MTB and find some mud

Finding it tough as am rather unfit after a weather and work induced layoff!

Being a specy 4-eyed git, I find the thing that really screws me up when riding in the rain is the complete inability to actually see where I'm going once the rain has coverd my specs.

How do other spectacle wearers cope?
In the past I had contact lenses, but they're just as hazardous, you constantly get bits of dust/grit lodged behind them which is equally debilitating.

If only I could afford laser eye surgery.. can you get that done if you need bifocals?
Couldnt you just put goggles over them, might feel a bit wierd but better then squinting in the rain?

Just to add to this thread, I had a very wet ride today, although it wasn't raining for very much of it.

As there has been significant rain overnight a number of the roads that I used were flooded. I switched route once at the start, but later, when no alternative routes were available, I had to gently go through the water. I was feeling slightly smug to have waterproof socks on.

Once I got properly wet, I embraced my wet ride and it was actually one of the most fun rides I have ever had, I now understand why my kids love jumping in puddles quite so much.

Around 10 miles from home, I had to go through a fairly long flooded bit of road, following a rescue truck, and due to its length had to pedal. Also the water was deep enough for me to be pedalling underwater, so much for waterproof socks. It was at that point that I remembered that waterproof socks also hold water in as well as keeping it out.

All very good fun and would do it again in a shot!

a little bit of rain reduces pedestrians and they are extremly irritating if you are trying for a good 4 mile sprint:sad:Dont know how it rains in your place but i'm extremly happy with rain as it reduces the number of people who think they own the road, walking right in the middle of it at 5am in the morning. My only wish in life(currently) is to :cycle: them and no get caught

The wind is worse for me atm. How can the wind always be blowing in my face for 360 degrees?

hehe Nihal, I almost knocked a pedestrian down the other day, he was too busy checking his camera and just stepped onto the road. If I was in a car he would've been bounced into a field.

I prefer the rain to a strong wind
Its the thought of getting wet that we dont like. Once I'm soaked it doesnt make much difference, skin is waterproof.
Not on a cold day though !!
