Being a specy 4-eyed git, I find the thing that really screws me up when riding in the rain is the complete inability to actually see where I'm going once the rain has coverd my specs.

How do other spectacle wearers cope?
In the past I had contact lenses, but they're just as hazardous, you constantly get bits of dust/grit lodged behind them which is equally debilitating.

If only I could afford laser eye surgery.. can you get that done if you need bifocals?

I'm a contact lens wearer and don't really have problems using them...for cycling they're essential to me, otherwise I'd be squinting all over the place!

Hating the rain here too...I've cleaned my bike twice after going out in the rain earlier in the week and refuse to get cold and wet just to have to do it again! Saying that, I'm currently on way to Decathlon to try to look at but not buy a Triban 3. Wish me luck

I think the issue with me was that I had to have to 'hard' lenses - couldn't use the 'soft' type because my prescription has lots of astigmatism in it. I believe that the hard type are a lot more prone to getting dust/dirt trapped behind them than the soft ones.

Good luck with the Triban by the way, I looked at one of those in Decathalon a few weeks ago and It looked a nice bike for the money, your wallet might be in danger....

Ah okay yeah that's fair, I think you're right. Either way, that feeling of knowing something has lodged under your lens is horrible, you can feel your eyeball being torn apart by something minuscule!

My OH is meeting me before I go into Decathlon so she can be my good angel to my wallet's bad angel. I bought my first bike in 2 years only 2 months ago and an SLR cam last week so I REALLY have to try and exhibit some self-control...

I stayed in bed this morning, I have been out braving the shite weather all week, but it has knocked the stuffing outta me so decided to have a lie in and look at the crap weather from the warmth of my comfy bed. Back to it tomorrow lunch time tho.

Went out for an hour as it looked like it had brigtened up and was itching to try the new bike. I loved the Secteur, felt just as comfy as my old mountain bike and a lot smoother/quieter. I got on well to the clip in pedals and Tiagra gears except for a few changes in the wrong direction! Shame about the flooding in the lanes, the wind and the downpour I got caught in!

No meatings b4 dinner!
It stopped raining and brightened up here this afternoon. I decided to spin out to Sainsburys for some dishwasher salt. Got the bike out to discover a front puncture. My second in a week. Completely different puncture site. Took a piece of glass the size of a small pane out of the tyre. Had to drive to the shop or miss closing time.

Suppose it was better than finding it at 6.30 am tomorrow as I set off for work.

Oh I don't know, I had plenty of fun on my 100km audax in rainy Essex today. The most fun parts were trying to get through all the water hazards where a couple of fords were in full flow and sections of road were under water up to a foot or more deep. Did have wet cold feet by the end of it.

I need glasses to read the route sheet though and that bit is definitely no fun :rain:

dont mind cycling in the rain but today i went down a hill and at the bottom it was flooded 3/4ft water in parts, some stupid kids drove through the water and tried to soak me then sped up behind a car and was reving there engine because the car was going slow.
