Got one, spare battery pack from eBay £7 allows me to leave light on full for any ride up to 3 hours :-)

All good advice above.
The first time I got some decent lights and went out at night it was a revelation. Love riding when it's dark especially in the country where it's really is dark. I stopped once on a downhill, under the tree canopy and turned everything off, even after letting my eyes get accustomed to the dark it was still as black as pitch. I did get spooked when I heard a snuffling and soft growling just the other side of the hedge. So naturally I turned my lights back on and pointed it through the hedge to see what it was ****ed off as fast as I could.
I can imagine that's amazing!

My first dark commute this year was a disaster (as usual). Light fell off, another stopped working, chain came off, guards rattled etc.....
Carry spare lights/batteries!!!

I bought a light like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1800-Lm-C...K_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item3a867cc3ca
It revolutionised my winter commute in the dark!
I know there are some mixed reviews but mine has been great!
One ride convinced me they ar the way to go.

I use the same, I have two on my bike, but only use one at a time, that way if the battery goes flat I can just switch on the second one.
After the first ride I decided it was better to get another set so had spare battery and charger, and I could put the other light on the other bike, but I tried putting both lights on the same bike and it is very good. So now I`m thinking I might need to get some for the other bike.

+1 for the t6 lights.
I've only just got one after staying to lit roads for ages.

Revolutionise my night riding it will, once I've stopped sh1tting myself at every animal noise in the dark fields.

Like the posters above, I bought one then ordered another straight after my first ride as a spare.

Apparently it's bad to shine them in your wife's eyes when you first get them tho, it won't make her aggree with how great you think they are.

Fixed wheel fanatic.
As long as you have descent lights you will be alright, some of the country lanes can be a bit eery when it's dark.^_^
I used to do most of my winter riding in the dark with a crappy little cat eye front light. It was like riding by candle power.
Every little snuffle or movement in the fields used to scare the wotsit out of me. It didn't help that every time I cycled through the woods I kept thinking about the film Blair Witch!!
It was always great just as the sun was coming up though. I'd often see young deer on the road, that would leap over the walls away from me.
