It sounds like he was actively screwed; and especially sadly out of absolutely everything; not just the direct proceeds of his success.

A horrible situation that I hope those responsible are held to account for.

I imagine he is desperate and at least needs to keep body and soul together.
I don't think you can be too judgemental when someone finds themselves in such terrible straits.

I asked AI to show the 'real' me.
There is an insolvency register where you can search for current cases. AFAIK they drop off after 3 months if the insolvency has met its requirements. His comes to an end on 3rd June 2025 when he can start again - assuming there are no additional restrictions. Bankruptcy these days is much simpler and less stressful than previously as it gives individuals the opportunity to put their lives back together again.
