Husband has been cycling a few months and thoroughly enjoying it, Lost weight, feeling more relaxed etc. At home cycling is on the flat.

However, we have come to the lake district on holiday. He is managing the hills and he is coming back relaxed after having good rides.

But then the stress sets in. Why? It has only started since we have been in the lakes. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. I have searched the forums but not found anything similar.

What do you mean by stress?
Is it too hilly, he gets tired and grumpy after a ride?
Maybe he needs a wee sleep, you're on holidays after all.

No, he comes back relaxed after enjoying himself. The "stress" sets in a little later. He says he feels as though he is "fizzing" and it is very unpleasant.

I wish, it is getting him down and not sure whether he should continue whilst we are here.

It does sound a bit worrying. Maybe he could have a rest day tomorrow and see if he still gets the same stressed feeling or not.

He has had a day off, he has had the same feeling every time he has been out.

I will try the carbs, thanks for that.

Is this in his legs? I know if I've been on a hilly ride, my legs will feel either sore or sort of tingly. If that's it, it's pretty normal, the muscles have been under more stress.

I think it is an all over thing. He becomes fidgety, he feels as though he is "fizzing". I remember when (long time ago) I used to come back from the gym. I couldn't sit still and had to be up and doing. But no way was it unpleasant.

I can only think it is the exertion dealing with the hills, at home we are on the flat. I have tried looking on the internet, but I am not sure what I am searching for.

Thanks Phil, I will suggest it to him.

I don't monitor him, maybe I should. Are there guidelines on what you should eat, and when, before a ride? He regularly does 11 miles at home with no problems.

Bye and large 11 Lake District miles are a lot more than 11 miles pretty much anywhere else in the country except maybe, Cornwall, the Scottish Highlands, the Yorkshire Dales or North Yorks Moors.

Big difference in cycling terrain,is he taking enough water and snacks? I'd be worn out going from flat to mega hills, perhaps just a very short ride to restore confidence and leave the bigger ones

Indeed, I was going to suggest half jokingly that maybe he's getting hooked on the hill riding and the stress/fizzing is because he's cooped up with a wife who fussed over him too much and wants to monitor what he eats!
