Here for rides.
What?

That he is a self appointed authority who saw a way of credentialising cycling and turning into another proto-health and safety industry racket complete with the usual gravy train?

Tripe. Utter tripe. It is nothing more than Cycling Proficiency for adults, no one forces anyone to buy the book much less ride by it.

Did the people who wrote 'Roadcraft', required reading and definition of required standards for advanced drivers and motorcyclists, and sometime handbook of police drivers, also share these bizarre, alleged motivations?

For goodness sake think with your head not your narrow prejudices and stop insulting someone you obviously have little first hand knowledge of.

Apparently you have all been touched by the hand of Franklin, you have drank from his miraculous gourd, he made the few flapjacks into enough to feed the entire London to Brighton ride.

I am trying to think of another reason for the unquestioning manner in which so many people fawn over Cyclecraft.

think a bit harder then. Which bit of "For goodness sake think with your head not your narrow prejudices and stop insulting someone you obviously have little first hand knowledge of." did you not understand?

Cyclecraft is not destroying UK cycling. By all means lets discuss the pros and cons of the CONTENT of the book but let's leave the attacks on John Franklin out of it.

Apparently only positive statements are allowed in relation to Cyclecraft.

That's a prejudice old chap, when you publish something that may be used as a base for policy by the so inclined in local government and the like then you leave yourself open to people asking why, and rightly so.

What on Earth are you on about? You haven't provided a single specific objection to what CycleCraft actually advises, rather suggesting you haven't actually read it...

In any case, the idea that Franklin has influenced local authority decision making is laughable, given the proliferation of crappy attempts at segregation that are entirely contrary to what Franklin believes.

It's not just about pavement engineering, someone upthread was going on about bikeability and vehicular cycling being taught at schools.

The proliferation of crappy attempts to define what cycling should be is a fault of both the LA's that instigate poor engineering of cycle provision and also the all or nothing attitude I see put forward whenever the dreaded cycle craft is mentioned.

So tell us what you know about Bikeability and where you think it is flawed.

Quite. It's one of those rare occasions where it would be nice if Zoiders were right.
