I don't think it's that Silverchair were bad particularly, but they weren't exactly great. The novelty of them being 15 when Frogstomp came out helped a lot I reckon.

Genesis were a trio during the 80s and 90s.

A decent trio needs very talented musicians because there is no room for any slackers.

Queen are a power trio when Brian May or Rodger Taylor are singing the lead vocal on songs.
