How about the comedic shootout in a film who's name escapes me. I think it was Clint Eastwood and A. N. Other. In a shoot out with a common foe. They each pull out ever increasingly long barreled guns whist gently goading each other with their superiority.

Got to be Heat. The extraordinary levels of preparation cast and crew put in (casing a bank, riding with cops, interviewing criminals) shows. Andy McNab did the weapons training.

Not on list but should be: Hard Boiled. Whole film is basically a series of shootouts.

This is ringing bells - are there two scenes in different films?
There was a hat-shooting contest with Lee van Cleef (in one of the 'Dollars trilogy?) Does he pull out his insanely long pistol later in that scene?
