I think its partly a generation thing. In the 60s/70s they were just part of my regular wear.

I don't know about that, in the 60s/70 I wore more or less the same type of clothing I wear today, apart from loons, and I can't remember my dad wearing cufflinks, but he did wear a tie sometimes.

I bought some silk knots for a couple of shirts last worn in about 2013. Not sure I’ve worn a suit since then.
I last wore a tie at primary school in about 1978 and in the Sixth form school play maybe...?

I've got one shirt that has them funny cuffs and I bought it for my wedding. I've never owned any cufflinks though, I borrowed those from my (now) wife.

I haven't worn a tie for work for over fifteen years but I can still tie a decent half-Windsor knot for weddings etc. if I have to.

I have 4 double/French cuff shirts and just two pairs of cufflinks, one pair 9K gold and the other some kind of fabric/material. I'm lazy,in that i don't unfasten the cuffs when taking off or putting on a shirt with cufflinks. I just narrow my hands down and slide the things on and off.

I'm 58 and have a number of french cuff shirts and a number of pairs of cufflinks. But I rarely wore them for many years. During my first 25 years in the workforce I would wear a suit every day. But I never wore french cuffs because it was my feeling that french cuffs were for those who had attained a certain level of success. It wasn't until I was hired to head up a national group for a company that I started to wear fench cuff shirts. Most of my colleagues were wearing them and I viewed it as part of the "uniform". So I wore them for about 10 years. Now I rarely put on a suit or even a tie anymore. I suppose if I were to go to a wedding or bar/bat mitzvah or some other event that required formal attire, then I would wear the french cuffs again. Otherwise I'm happy not to have to wear a collar that is tight around my neck. I much prefer a relaxed and comfortable form of attire.

But when I do wear cufflinks, these are four of my favorite pair.

Cufflinks remind me of the significant question: do you shower before work or after work?
I shower when my work is done and have never owned or worn cufflinks.
No need for jewellery to “look smart”, whatever that means
I look forward with relish to the day where all these silly, outdated signifiers of status are abandoned, and we can just get on with being, and not showing off. Reliance on clothes as uniform is a form of oppression. About time we all got real.
