You called it! An absolute drubbing. Where's the tactics when your opener is run out in that situation?
Played India.

Yeah, I wish I hadn't though.

We've basically lost that by an innings.

Blah blah conditions etc. A woeful performance.

They don't have any and thats the problem unless they can smash every thing out the park they are clueless.
Have confidence in your side and talk things up, but the current set up is totally unable to see reality.
India showed what tests cricket is all about you change your game to suit the day. They not only out played us , they laid bare all what's what's wrong with England's inflexible mindset and leadership. Sadly they can't see past the self imposed arrogance and inability to play the game any other way.

Maybe they have to recognise they all have different roles in the team, Crawley, Duckett, Stokes, Bairstow have all thrived under bazball whereas Pope, Root and Foakes are cut of a different cloth. If the two groups are allowed to complement each other rather than compete we would win more often.

Exactly all good teams are a mixed balanced bunch each player bringing something to party. Complimenting each other ones who play the long game and ones who knock a quick 50. Or bowlers who tie down one end allowing another to mix it up at the other. Sadly England have lost any sense of balance and won't change. Stokes is too stubborn and too often he puts glory before anything else. So can't see how unbalanced his way of going things is let alone that it's not longer working.

Root has dug us out of a hole after a difficult first session

Hell of a rescue act and great position on what looks to be a tricky pitch. I'm pleased to see Root playing the best version of Root, rather than playing it like a T20. Plenty of others to slap it around at 5 runs an over.

Another 50 or so tomorrow would put us in a fairly strong position, this seems like it was going to be the hardest day to bat and we've avoided a total disaster.

Well played Root, exactly what we needed.
