I would also add that some of the Merc auto boxes don't seem to cope that well with aggressive use of the throttle at low speed, making jerky changes which has a very similar effect to letting the clutch out to quickly on a manual with a heavy throttle application.
Oh my, this is so true. They don't seem to drop below 2nd until you stop completely, but they'll kick down easily, so pulling away sharpish from any junction has the TC light flashing like a mad thing.

lol!!!! You where the first to mention anything about accident!

Either way an RTC report will be sent to a specific traffic unit for an area and traffic cops investigate it. Anything reported properly is not just brushed under the carpet.

What ever experiences you have had does not mean that everything similar is not looked at.

I've even reported an incident when there was no collision using the RTC form and it's being taken very seriously.

Gaz, the only experience I've had from accidents is investigating them. I'm a police officer.

You appear to be arguing semantics. I have not said at any point that it would not be investigated, I even advised the OP to speak to police about the incident.

An RTC report will not be completed, an incident log will be but not an RTC report. An RTC report is used to document injury or damage RTC's and the statistics are used by the government. I could not complete an RTC report for the OP's incident but would be more than happy to investigate the incident.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

From my experience it all comes from the same form.
Perhaps that is just the met.

In future it might be better to explain your point more clearly, it makes more sense now but before it came across as it can't be logged because it wasnt an accident. Which is bs!

You can report the incident on a self reporting RTC form by all means, it will contain all the information required to investigate the incident when forwarded to officers.

Oh and no there wasn't any damage, I just sort of lolloped over and rolled, fortunately I was only moving at about 9mph.

Thank god for Friday legs eh?

If there was any injury (even a sprain?) then then it becomes a legal obligation to report the accident and provide details.

Are you sure you weren't injured ;)

Report it!!! I've nearly been hit so many times. Once I was going 40 and this guy was coming closer and closer to me. I ended up shouting at the top of my voice and banging on his window. Any closer and it could of been a lot worse. I caught up with him at the traffic lights and went berserk. I then proceeded to ride in the middle of the road at about 4 mph.

Even though you weren't injured you should report it as the next person might not be so lucky.

Is an rta the same as an rtc ?

Potato, potato.

I'm told they are collisions rather than accidents as accidents imply that no one was at fault which is very rarely the case.

They mean pretty much the same in general terms but different bits of law have different definitions.

There is no evidence and no injury, the police weren't interested.

The DVLA on the other hand were. They were particularly interested when I mentioned my concerns that the car wasn't coming up on the insurance data base either.

I was told failure to comply with licencing regulations could result in the car being towed and crushed.

Not taxing a +£10k car when you have got insurance dosnt make sense. Why risk the all too likely prospect of getting pulled over and car towed , impounted and etc etc.
