I had a similiar click that was driving me mad.
One thing to watch for on hollowtech II cranks is corrosion on the splines where the near side crank attaches to the axle(?). I noticed some slight corrosion on the edge of the little dimple where the safety tab slots in. A little file down and then lather in grease before reassembly followed by a good dose of GT85 on the chainring bolts.
The click hasn't dared come back so far, but I don't know if it was the chainring bolts or the splines....
