That's what I think, anyway. But if you genuinely like it, then so be it. I'm happy for you.

I'm with you, Fnaar, so to speak - I quite like a few Cash Sun Records songs but I don't like that one at all, in fact anything after about 1958.

Devo's satisfaction that set off this thread is a superb cover. I like The Clash version of I Fought the Law, I quite enjoy Bobby Fullers jangly guitar version too and think the Flying Lizards version of Money is head and shoulders above the Beatles.

I prefer the versions Johnny Cash did of One & Personal Jesus more than his take on Hurt - I'd have loved to hear him do Hurt in his pomp and really ramp the anger as well as the resignation into it

I've never quite got the fuss about this. It's a song to which lots of poeple go 'ooh, great', but to me it just doesn't go with Johnny Cash at all. I love most of the stuff from those late American sessions towards the end of his life, but strangely, for me, this one grates. So much so that I actually get a bit angry when people go 'ooh', and then when you ask them if they've heard other songs from those sessions/albums they look at you as if they don't want you to ask them difficult questions, and they didn't really want to talk about JC per se, they just wanted to express a like for a song they've heard other people go 'ooh' over, and so they think they ought to go 'ooh' too, but they haven't done their homework, and don't actually really like JC, and probably prefer to watch the X Factor and eat burgers and die early of not thinking about their music properly.

i'm a big fan of cash but i feel this song looses something in his cover, but then i am a big NIN fan.

whilst i'm at it, here's type O negative covering the islay brothers' annoying "summer Breeze" and making it awesome ;)

also a big type O fan

Tell me you're not serious...
I'm not serious.

But I am really. As covers go, for me at least.
