Could front derailleur rub cause rear chain slippage?

Go!

Straight forward question.... Probably not a straight forward answer.

Reason I ask is I have fitted a new chain and had a fiddle about with bits and bobs. Went out and the chain was slipping when under load. Got in and thought cassette must be worn too so ordered a new one. It then occurred to me that the front derailleur was rubbing. I have sorted that now and after a quick nip to the shops just now (no major effort) all seems fine...

I will answer my own question tomorrow morning during my commute if it has settled down, just wondered if someone could help me sleep tonight...

PS. The cassette LOOKS ok to the naked eye but there you go.

I had this problem in my new road bike, B Twin Triban 3. The mechanic at the Decathlon store suggested to tighten the cable by tightening the screw.
Have a look at this video. It is one of the most boring presentations of the subject but subject is explained well.

It tends to be about how much wear you have on that chain. If its gone beyond 1.25% usually that's going to increase the chance of skip. However if you found things improved with an adjustment to your front derailleur H/L screws. My main advice in addition to the above would be on your ride tomorrow don't ride out of the saddle for safety's sake until you are sure you have seen off the rub. Skip is no joke if you are putting your whole weight on out the pedal going round a busy roundabout in rush hour... Ouch!!!

New chain - old cassette, chain WILL skip under load! If not too worn, the two will gradually blend to eliminate the problem, so go easy under power until then.

Sorted! The cheeky little 14+15 were quite badly worn and hiding in the middle. New cassette = sorted. I think it happened more rapidly than I'd hope because I'm on a 50/34 and cross chain more than I should
