Why not the road bike? Wind and rain? Will it melt if wet?

The roads are probably better over there too.

If I could get a ferry from here to somewhere interesting that was only a few miles round, then I'd go tomorrow! Well, maybe at the weekend.
I'm sure you can rustle up a cycling buddy if you try hard enough.

Well, thankyou fellow bicycling fiends!

All booked and confirmed!!

I know this is as nothing compared to all you 100 mile-a-dayers, JOGLE in a weekend and Preston to Nairobi just to break the new brakes in types...........but to a wheezy, anxious beginner like me it is a bit of a milestone.

Why don't I take the Road Bike? - Well I'll see how the weather looks nearer the time. I'm still new to skinny-tyred biking but my trusty MTB is equipped with mud-plugging tyres, crud-guards, full suspension and is pretty much hand built by me. Slow, heavy but comforting. I'd like to take mi shiny red racer if it feels right 'though!

Why not ride down the A38 to the ferry-port? This would pretty much ruin it for me I think. Glass-strewn rumble strip articulated-lorry dual-carriageway riding is not my idea of fun just now. I did ride it (once)-but it was just horrid.

Sounds like a boat trip with wine and dinners?

YUP!

Thanks again all

Ok...erm...what is this 'disc du tax' of which you speak?

Do I has to have some kind of official documentation to ride a bike dans la belle France? First I've heard?!
