Contador is to leave Asatana

It's being reported that Alberto Contador is to leave Team Astana at the end of the season but that he hasn't decided on which team he'll join for next season.

Hmmm a second report seems less certain

During the Tour de France, Contador said he was likely to stay with Astana. However he now seems open to other offers. He told French newspaper L'Equipe that a decision would be made in a few days but the statement he issued says he “wants to have time to calmly explore all possibilities available to him for the coming seasons. But so far none has been excluded.”

I don't know how truthful it is but I heard the suggestion that he and Andy Schleck could be team mates next year. If so its a pity in a way as it looked like they were just starting to be interesting competition between the two.

I think that this is the most likely. There was never any way he was going to stay at a team that is basically owned by Vinokourov once the latter was racing again.

The rumour earlier in the year was that Fernando Alonso, the F1 driver and a big fan of cycling, was going to help create a new Spanish team with Berto at the head, but the idea seems to have fizzled out.
