Re that last post. In my case I left plenty of room and at the point of collision just before my exit (Which was very close to the 2 lanes coming on to the roundabout) I was slightly to the right of the primary postion. This guy didnt go so far and brake, he braked and then accelerated then braked hard as I was in front of him. I felt sure he was going to get me full on. I think his wife who had seen me clearly, had shouted to him, I dont hink he saw me at all until he hit me, thankfully by then I was almost past him.
Dave.
There are occasions when driving my own car that I have almost failed to see another car approaching from the right , as the A-pillar is exactly in the way. I am very extremely careful now

A-pillar blind spots can be a problem - particularly for motorcyclists and cyclists who have a smaller profile. However, motorists have a responsibility to take this into account - hence, look and look again.

Oh, since nobody else has suggested it, get CTC membership and get in touch with the CTC solicitors on this matter (just incase).

Or go to their Insurance direct.
At the end of the day the fee's will all be swallowed up by Solicitors.

I had a no fault accident and the other persons insurance contacted me to arrange settlement.

I think it's best to CTC it just incase the insurance company will find out they didn't have insurance and say we'd like sue you personally for damages. Call our bluff, bye bye.

Joe,
No I didnt have a chance to manovre out of the way, I was almost hafway past the outer lane of his juction when he shot out. There was a car alongside him and one behind, he took me by complete surprise as he appeared to be to be stopping.
Back at work today, knee feeling much better but shoulder muscles giving a bit of grief, however with plenty of Voltarol gel applied I think I will cope until it improves. Im self employed and really busy at the moment so cant afford to risk losing customers, so I'll have to persevere.
Dave.

Just heard that its going to cost £150 to get my new bike repaired. New bits to top of brakes at the hoods, where it hit the road and apparently as it has Carbon forks they need to be replaced, even though there is no apparent damage to them. For a few days I couldnt stomach the thought of cycling on the roads again, however this seems to have passed and now I cant wait to get out there again.
Dave.

It sounds like you need to send the driver a copy of the bill.
Good luck.

Get back out on that bike as soon as you can. The longer the leave it, the worst the fear.

2nded - I was taken off on a roundabout 20 years ago and after got off and walked my bike round every one that I came too for about 6 months. It was not your fault, do as you were doing and get back out there.

Well got my bike back a couple of days ago (Spec Tricross) and apart from a bit of A road I went for a spin on the local cycle paths. I have also recently got a Merlin MTB. I def have more control with the Merlin than the Tricross. Probably the difference between straights and drops, but also as the wheelbase is longer in the Tri it is not as sharp in the handling. Obviously built for a different requirement but it has got me wondering if I might be better suited to a bike with straights instead or should I just persevere and try and get used to it.

My eyes can't handle the lack of paragraph spacing in your story, but I gather you've had an accident.

Hope it wasn't too bad and you recover soon.

I just endured another bout of physio.

I'm looking to increase my ride distance and was looking at a run to Southport.

I'd be setting off from the Aspull area , heading upto Standish and then onto Southport. After Standish it gets a bit vague (i'd end up lost in Preston if i went on my own )

Send me a PM if you want some company on the journey.

Persevere. I recently bought a new tourer with drops - felt very wobbly and unstable for a while as I was used to a tourer with straight bars, but now it feels natural.

At least give it a few hundred miles before you decide it's not for you...

Glad it wasnt too serious and you are back on the bike again.

I had a close call turning right at a RaB idiot behind tried to squeeze between me and the cars in the left hand lane. On busy Rabs i chicken out and go the pedestrian route.
