We have. Sage Barista Pro , it’s gone up a bit on price . Works for us , we also have a Nespresso machine for our caravan . Both suit for my needs. Pods are way more expensive , however my Sage machine has been repaired once under warranty already !

I've seen that comment about the Sage machines quite often.

...and modify it to 9 bar, then spend at least double the amount on a high quality grinder and feed it high quality fresh (but not just-roasted, they must rest) beans with a calibrated and measured dose which the Gaggia dispenses in 30 seconds and you may be some way to nirvana.

...and all that. Any less is just artifice if one pretends to be serious about coffee. :okay:

Or drink what you fancy as long as you are happy and enjoy it.

I don't go quite as far as you but do have a gaggia burr grinder.

I didn't go as far as me, either. I was just illustrating the truth of this, which I think is particularly prevalent wrt coffee 😊

Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum.
And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on;
While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.

I'd cut down on whatever stimulants you are on, podded or not.

This thread is aimed at becoming novice to pro Baristas. However although pods may be frowned upon, they’re acceptable if it’s at somewhere like your caravan, outside garden office or man cave etc.

Capsule things are the work of marketeers.
The coffee bean is all the packaging you need.
Get yourself a gaggia classic, if in a hard water area descale regularly.

That is now my goto coffee maker, and it deserved a good grinder to get the best from it. I'm not to anal about set-up and using it, I can make nice coffee using the beans from the roaster in town and that's enough fun for me 😀

Then I would I would suggest investing in proper machine and separate grinder. Also find who does the best roast in your area and the smallest size possible for delivery unless you have a family that is into coffee. There is an artisan element from suppliers now so its a bit of trial and error for the right supplier. Try different roast when you place your orders. I was on this route for a while when I was less busy but have to admit that I enjoyed it while it lasted. Enjoy.

Also which ever of the Italian type coffee machines you go for, make sure the steam nozzle for frothing the milk has enough oomph behind it, having had one that didn’t it was a pain stopping and starting to let the steam pressure build back up

I got a Delonghi Specialista just before lockdown and by Attenborough it’s paid for itself. It’s bean to cup and pretends to be a pro machine, which is marketing bollyhocks, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that is makes decent espressos, americanos and lattes with a good faff/result ratio.

I like that the milk frother works like a pro machine and just squirts stream into a jug, rather than trying to over-integrate the whole milk delivery system. The more complicated the milk, the more there is to clean.

We also have a Sage Barista Pro, got it about 18months ago as a lockdown learning experience. Took a while to understand the variable and also what beans to use, once dialled in it has been super consistent. It makes about 2 cups a day on average so it’s not too stressed. We use RO water as the water here is super hard, this also helps with consistency (i think at least). We found that some digital scales are invaluable as well as a separate tamper.

I’ve seen this machine on sale and can get a blue light discount also. Is it any good?
I’ve always wanted one of those shiney Italian ones that cost a bomb.

Every once in a while I like a nice large, hot and strong(ish) latte. I don’t like the lukewarm insipid milky lattes you get at Costa and prefer instead the sort of latte you get at Caffe Nero.

A friend of mine has a home coffee maker very similar to the one at that link and it seems to take quite a lot of faffing around to produce a single small latte that looks pretty much like the one in the photo and tastes worse than a Costa coffee. That kind of put me off buying my own home coffee machine.
