I think I remember my folks telling me it was bad for the mechanism of a mechanical clock to wind it backwards, but I'm not sure whether that was true or not?

aye, my clockwork wall clock doesn't like being taken backwards. It doesn't break it, but something gets messed up and it would only tick for ten minutes or so before stopping. It took me a good few years to work out that it's best to take it forwards eleven hours than back one.

If it’s a chiming/striking clock, you will do it all kinds of potentially expensive mischief. Easier to stop it for an hour. Set a timer on your phone to restart the clock

I used to hate the autumn hour change because on some clocks the only option to go back an hour was to go forward 23 hours. None of those left now.

I have an electromechanical clock which has an arrow suggesting that it should not be adjusted backwards. It is a pain turning the hands through 11 hours but I don't want to risk seeing what happens if I disobey!

My phone and radio do it automatically and I don't have anything else with a clock.

Do you think we should scrap day light saving time though? Luckily I finish work early enough to drive home in the light but after the school run is complete it’s soon dark.

If it does get changed, it will almost certainly be the other way. We would stay on BST (daylight saving time) all year, rather than being on UTC through the winter.
