Well I've done it! After much vacillating, I got Shimano R540 pedals, and Fizik R3 shoes.

One immediate benefit I noticed which was not expected was just the aesthetic! Looks so much better than the toe traps and straps! Really they quite transform the look of the bike.

Yes, as you can tell, I'm now vacillating out of fear, having put them on the bike, putting of the dreaded moment when I use them!

To be fair, I just had sports physio in advance of an athletics match today, and was told to take it easy and not do any exercise today. But even as I write it this seems like an excuse to me. Though also, I am keen not to take a spill before tomorrow, since it would screw up my chances and let my team down!

Think I'll have a little play with it in the garden, and see how it goes!

P.s apologies if this is wrong section!

You'll wonder why you never switched sooner, well after a few falls

Only fall I have had so far in 2 weeks was my daughter bumping into the bike when cilpped in as I adjusted positions on the bike in the garden can't wait for public humiliation loving the cleats though I would never go back.

Had mine on for a couple of months but still having to watch my foot into the pedal. Does it become second nature (guess I might have become lazy as have had M520s on for so long and I didn't need to worry about which side of the pedal to clip into!)

I have fallen in cleats in the early days myself. Only happened when suddenly forced to brake unexpectedly and was preoccupied with stopping the bike and forgot about the cleats. It's not a given that you will fall but try to remember to unclip when you need to. Enjoy!

No as the pedals are very rarely the right way round if can only clip in on one side. This is exactly how my a600 are

I fell on the day I fitted these. That was after a 10mile ride and just got into my drive.

I'd un clipped my left shoe but stupidly but my shoe on the pedal to rest. This in turn can semi lock in

So a nice slow dive onto the floor.

Luckily your body hits the floor first and bike escapes without a scratch.

I'm 200 miles in now using clipless and love them.

Good luck!

Had my first run with clipless yesterday, really liked them. Did get some cramp on the first 8 or so miles but think this was just from me used to flats, the return journey was fine and I loved it and just felt so connected to the bike.
