I have to carry my bike up and down two flights of stairs every time i go out, MTB the only option for me.

You could take your shoes off you know

I never have managed to pull the shoe out of the pedal, I do it fairly often on the MTB type SPDs though.

I must say, that's never happened to me in thousands of miles riding fixed on M520s, unless I want the shoe to come out that is.

Same here, have never managed to pull a cleat out of my spd's. But then again I do have them all set to the tightest binding.

It's probably down to me having used top end road pedals for 20 years. Only been using SPD in a road environment for the last five.

I obviously use the float, as tried non float when they came out and my knees did not like them.

Swap shoes over? £4 and small/light enough to put in a shirtback pocket...

No, i have shoes to use when cycling already. Taking spares, even to me that refuses to walk anywhere barefoot (except to the toilet at 3am) seems a bit anal.

You were talking about walking about, I was refering to riding with/without shoes. I will quite happily walk without shoes, unless its on glass ect. but that is being stupid if you do that, riding a bike without shoes works but it's not effective.

I missed that but would still say walking anywhere without shoes is a foolish endeavor never to be tried. Unless you think stopping to put some form of footwear on could result in bladder leakage before toilet arrival.

"A bit anal" Moi? ;) Don't see the point in wrecking a £20 pair of cleats by not swapping shoes over if I know I'm going to be walking more than a short distance. Wouldn't try walking home in football boots if that was my sport.

Feet didn't develop for shoes, more the other way round your feet get used to it, we are to soft in this modern world.
