How do you clean your road bike, what do you use for cleaning it.
Do you wash/sponge with warm water, how often do you clean the bike..
Mine's in a bit of a state and needs a good clean so any tips on ways to get the bike gleaming would be great..

If its looking a bit too mucky I'll take a bucket of soapy water to it. Once in a while I'll get the furniture polish and a rag out and give it a bit of a polish.

Wet bike, spray muck-off or use soapy water, brush with brush from dustpan set.
Rinse and drip-dry.
If nneded, chain bath de-grease, else adjust and re-lube.
To polish I use GT85 or TFT as polish, lube and protect all in one, makes t look the biz too.

That's my usual.

Road bike? Baby wipes or towels unless its really bad when I'll use car shampoo.. Chain and running gear, use mickle method which is bascially re-lube and wipe until wipes are clear..

On a related note, I keep my bikes in a shed which is slightly damp. How do you prevent the shiny bits rusting?

Got a 6 year old mountain bike in their which gets regular use and cleaning, however, bolts and other shiny bits are a bit rusty looking now. Don't want my new Carrera TDF going the same way after a few years.

i used to use a small de-humidifier box filled with silica crystals needs replacing every couple of weeks but was quite cheap and worked wonders!

Baby wipes here, unless it's got dirty (which is rare because I never ride it in the rain), when I use warm water and car shampoo.

this reminds me i must clean my bike properly (i feel bad as its last wash was about a month ago) i clean and regularly oil the chain but the black stuff keeps re-appearing after a few rides so needs a hose off.

i use babywipes if just a bit wet etc, if dirty i have a big bottle of muck off, a lambswool wash mit (from my bufty boy days) a sponge and a 2 bucket cleaning method! ifits really bad i take a trip to my dads and use his hosepipe. might get some carnauba wax on it after my next clean though to see how long it lasts for

After any wet ride it's washed with car shampoo and a sponge. Regular wipe over with Mr Sheen (original -this is important).

Occasional wax with car wax.

A dirty bike is a slow bike. Red and blue bikes are fastest, especially when clean.
