On both the road and mtb I clean with baby wipes, then polish with autoglym high gloss every few rides. Dirt falls off with that stuff. Admittedly, its much less often on the road bike as it sees less dirt.

Oily rag to remove just enough gunk so that the chain & cassette are visible. Then a touch of the spray oil that fizzes and penetrates (apparently).

Baby wipes are for cleaning the hands after touching the dirty bike

baby wipes are great for cleaning just about anything. Didn't discover them until our rug rats came along. Use them all the time now. Around the house, car pretty much anywhere!

I clean bike with wd40 , then clean Chain with chain cleaner device with white spirit or kerosene. Then I re lube with motorcycle chain lube ( non o ring). you dont need fancy expensive lubes and cleaners. I commute 90 miles a week rain or shine on my Jake the snake and I find this the best way that works for me.

If you really don't want to use baby wipes then Muc-Off Degreaser works a bloody treat. Leave it on for 5 minutes, and wash away with water and it'll melt any sort of crap off.

Sod that! Just shove it back in the shed.

Same here

Read this thread last night, got a pack of Johnston's baby wipes at the local Poundland/Poundworld today, did a few miles on the bike earlier, got home, bit of dust/ road film on the bike, baby wipes come out, one wipe used, bike clean, I'm converted. Finished the job off with a very light spray of GT85 for good measure. Oh, and the bike smells nice too.
