Thanks, that's helpful. Would that 1K include scaffolding, or would you be ok working without it? (Slate roof, as you can see, but easy access via a Velux.)

Oh, and just in case, N/NE London (so within easy reach of Herts/Essex) if any CC'er does know of anyone in that neck of the woods.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news swee'pea99 but my quote was for just the scaffolding. I know, it gets very expensive very quickly.
If I was carrying out the repair, I would be okay to do it without scaffolding but again, beware of those willing to do it this way as the chances are you won't get a full repair as the usual warcry of feck it, that will do goes up as they struggle to reach every face of the chimney. Sorry to be a bit negative, I've just seen it too many times.

Um...it's mostly repointing, but I'm pretty sure this bit didn't used to be there. So that might need moving & mounting too.

When you say 'someone they know', d'you mean someone they know who'll do it without? I suspect you're right that most would specify scaffolding, but I also suspect that would double the cost of the job. It's basically a few hours' work, but my guess is scaffolding would cost hundreds.

Looks like the lead is pierced in the left of your picture, see it ?

Fair enough. Thanks. Still very helpful.

Yeah. Dammit! It took out a couple of slates on its way down too. Never rains but it pours...tho' in truth it's my own damn fault - I've known it was dodgy for awhile, but I've been putting off doing anything about it. Money, as ever...but it'll come back to bite me. Stitch in time and all that...*sigh*
