Cheap 'no monthly topup' payg phone deals - do they still exist?

Those payg sim deals where you paid £5 for the sim, didn't have to top it up every month and only had to send a text every x months to keep it active? Do these sim deals still exist?

I'm trying to ressurect a perfectly good old 2g phone with amazing battery life and - most importantly - that would fit brilliantly into my seat post bag (my smartphone won't), but it needs a new payg sim and the idea is to have it as a 'no cost unless you actually use it' very occasional use/emergency phone with no monthly cost.

Possible? Anyone doing this already - what are you using?

I think most still do that, they just push their monthly topup offers so much it doesn't look like it.
Bought my mum a smart phone at the beginning of the year on O2, suggested she use a Giffgaff sim as I thought I would be cheaper for her kind of use though even I couldn't work out what it would cost on O2! She's stuck with O2 for now though and just tops it up whenever she needs to.

I use Asda Mobile - 8p a minute on the EE network.

I just pop £5 on the card that comes with the SIM - the bundles (effectively 5p/minute) have a monthly time limit but I don't think the normal top-ups do.

The local Asda were also selling off those Alcatel phones for £5 so for £10 you are all sorted.

+1 as well for giffgaff. I use them for all my close family, free calls to each other (up to 60 min then redial).

Brilliant -thanks all. Giffgaff looks likely then. I really don't want my smartphone when I'm out riding - and a tiny new 0.2l seat post bag is making me frugal in every sense!

I'd suggest Sainburys.

As they currently give you a £5 voucher, your £10 top up costs £5.
So that £5 spent means it is 4p per minute and 2p per text.
