There's one called utterly (or udderly) something or other. I've tried it and had no complaints, so one to look for. Personally, I stay with sudocream or conotrane though - they do and they're cheaper.

But, tbh, none of these creams stop you getting a sore arse periodically, particularly not after 6 hours in the saddle. Sudocrem et al are intended to prevent irritation, rash, etc. They do nothing for numb bum. As for sore gnads, I'd look at your saddle position (or even your shorts!) before thinking any magic snake oil will resolve.

I accept periodic numb bum as an unavoidable consequence of being in the saddle for hours on end (ho ho). Getting out of the saddle or changing position helps. I hasten to add that I suffer no longer term problems - once I've stopped riding then all is okay. If I suffered unduly after a ride then I'd be looking for other causes.

Make my own:-

1 tub Boots Aqua Cream
1 tub Boots derma cream
70ml Witch hazel
10ml any antibiotic essential oil. Tea tree oil is the usual one.

Think it works out at about £13 or slightly more a Kilo, far cheaper than Assos

Add the two creams together in a mixing bowl, followed by the Witch Hazel and then slowly stir in the essential oil and then pour back into the tubs

This recipe was from a website, www.lagazzettadellabici.com, which has now gone, it was an italian cycling journal and I have a feeling the page has been took down and the chamois cream marketed as "Enzo's button hole chamois cream" but that is a hunch. It also had the help of Bradley Wiggins wife in creating the chamois cream. Having used a few proprietary chamois creams including Assos and Uderlley Smooth etc, this is by far the best that I have ever used, I use it on all my rides, some of which go over 200+ miles non stop and get no problems.

Thanks for the advice and it looks like Assos has got to be the one for me.
Mixing creams isnt for me and for the sake of a few quid more id rather have it off the shelf.

Thx.

Dont use cream, I just use a liner under my shorts !
10000 miles in the last year and chaff free:thumbsup:
Never liked the feeling of going out with soggy bits:ohmy:
Where did you get the liners?

I'm thinking of using them under shorts during a summer tour to help with the laundry - not sure what I'm looking for though.

Anyone with children will have an abundance of E45 and Sudocrem at home anyway. I know we do.

I have too... and we don't have kids. The sudocrem is mine and the E45 is the wife's. She lathers the stuff on after showers.

I was tempted to go home brew the last time someone posted a recipe. How does one mix Sudocrem btw? Do you warm it first? Or do the other ingredients thin it? Because it doesn't seem to me to be the sort of stuff that readily mixes with anything.

That's what I use and it's a shame the blog has gone now.

The E45 and Sudocrem mix but are thinned slightly by the essential oils/tea tree oil/Witchazel. You add drops slowly until it's thin enough.
